Since then he has gone on to score hundreds in hundreds of appearances and has become an all-round specialist. When he took his first cup match after retirement, he became the first player to double up the century plus runs in a match. It was a feat that took him only 15 minutes to achieve. Since then he has become known for his century matches taking three extra wickets in the process. As he enters the twilight of his career, the pressure will be on him to make the same number of centuries in his remaining days as he did in his early years.

There are a number of factors that contribute to his increasing age. The first one is the increasing use of the bat. Batting techniques have changed over the years and now require longer strokes and more practice. This makes it difficult for a slow pace batsman to stay fit. Fortunately for him, he has been playing in longer periods and the effect of that on his body is noticeable.

Another factor affecting the player’s age is the type of bowl he bowls on. There are several bowlers who bowl only once or twice a year and then rest on their laurels for the next few seasons. Lasith Malinga bowls every three weeks. It’s no secret that he wants to win the IPL title badly and it’s obvious that he feels the need to keep himself in good condition for the ongoing season.

Finally there is the matter of domestic cricket. Lasith Malinga has been part of the Sri Lanka team management for the last seven years and looks back fondly on those years spent playing for his country. By all accounts, the timing for his retirement is right and he is looking forward to what lies ahead.

One of the most popular players of the current generation is Lasith Malinga, who is currently a member of the Bangladesh squad for the ongoing Caribbean Islands Cricket Association (CARCA). While many cricket fans have become aware of his achievements on the field, not many are aware of his entire cricket history, which spanned several decades and involved many different teams.

Although he initially made his debut for Somerset in a one-day game against the West Indies in the mid-1990s, he had a very solid grounding in the game, playing for some of the top clubs in England as well as for several other nations over the course of his playing career. He made his debut for the England team in a one-day match against India at the Christ Churchyard Stadium in 2021, playing a role in the eventual victory over India.

Following his impressive career in England, Lasith  Malinga moved across to Sri Lanka where he established himself as a leading batsman and bowler. He first played for the Sri Lanka national team for one day against England, prior to which he was picked in the Twenty20 international team that went on to win the trophy for the best team in the tournament.

During this time he also gained valuable experience playing for the Windward Islands side, which led him to a call up to the West Indies team that travelled to Barbados to take on the England team in the 2021 Cricket World Cup. His three century and nine-wicket haul helped the Windward Islands to their maiden ever appearance in the tournament, which remains their only defeat to that point.

Following his outstanding performance in Barbados, Lasith Malinga was given a Test cap by the England team for the second consecutive year, which led to him being one of only two players to make a century in a one day match. Although he didn’t make a century in the final match, it marked a high point in his career, as well as helping him secure his place in the England side for the future.

After another excellent performance at the Caribbean cup, he became part of the trier of the West Indies in the South African Tests. Despite losing the series 3-1, he managed to help his side win the next three Tests to take them top of the standings. This helped them to secure a place in the semi finals, where they would face either the hosts or defending champions New Zealand.

After a poor showing in the semifinals, Lasith Malinga was dropped from the West Indies tour to Australia, where he impressed once again in the one-day match. Despite getting out at the slips, he managed to pick up four wickets, taking himself top of the rankings. In the final he put in a complete performance, picking up three wickets and taking his side to the title.

The success of his comeback trip to Australia made him even more popular overseas, with even a deal being struck to play at an exhibition match in India during the West Indies tour, later he went on to become the highest paid cricketer in the world after the tour. In between his four Tests for the West Indies he also played two one-day internationals against Pakistan, helping his team to take three out of four matches.

However, it was not just the one-day internationals that brought Lasith Malinga to the attention of the world as a world class cricketer. He has gone on to sign a six month contract with the Indian Premier League giants, ACB. Not only did he make his ODI debut in the same season as Lasith Malinga, but he has since gone on to become one of the best Twenty20 players in the world.

After impressing in both the formats, Lasith Malinga moved into the coaching side of the IPL, where he has become one of the most successful franchises in the world. With IPL sides continuously winning the IPL title, Malinga is now considered the best cricketing career that can be tailored to anyone’s needs.

Although Lasith Malinga is yet to win the world cup, his impressive career has certainly made him a name that all cricket fans can be proud of. His contributions to the greater cricketing world, both as a player and a coach, has earned him a place in the cricketing hall of fame. The greatness of a career such as Lasith Malinga’s is one that cannot be measured by any standard, only the memory of his many achievements will do.
